Better Kidney Health for Kids: Six Golden Rules to Help!

in Kidney Disease

Many habits and lifestyle measures adopted by kids pave the way for healthy kidney function in adulthood. Much of the complications can be avoided if healthy decisions about life and diet are taken at the right time. Being a parent, you can always indulge good habits in your child from an early age.

So, let’s get started with the seven golden rules to keep up with the kidney function.

  1. Do regular exercise or activity or play: 15 minutes of daily workout can help avoid many complications that may immerse with obesity. It helps your kid feel better mentally and physically and shed off excess weight. Obesity is the leading cause of heart and kidney related problems in adults. So, if their weight is balanced, you can help them avoid such risks. Physical workout can be incorporated in many forms, such as walking, cycling. Find out their favorite activities so that they can enjoy their play. Keep everything fun, or else they may lose interest. Another thing you can do is limit their media time. Binge using smartphones or tablets or computers or television brings no good but harm to their health. Sitting for two or three hours at the same time puts on weight. You can make them avoid this.
  2. Help them meet their fluid intake: Help them build a habit of drinking plain water and avoid carbohydrates and sugary drinks. Bicarbonate drinks pull out calcium from the bones, so they are not healthy either way. While on the other hand, water helps cleanse the blood and produce urine to keep the waste out. Drinking water, ideally 8 to 10 glasses of water each day, helps the brain get the maximum amount of oxygen. Mild dehydration makes a kid tired quickly, and it impairs normal body functions. In the worst scenario, constant dehydration may also pull out the risk of permanent kidney damage. To know if your kid is hydrated well, ask them the color of their urine. If it happens to be dark, it means they need to up the water intake. Light urine color signifies that a person is hydrated well. If they don’t like to drink plain water, add a few drops of lemon to change its taste.
  3. Cut down sugar: Too much sugar in a diet can increase the risk of diabetes as they get older. In the older age, their kidneys are already at the risk of kidney damage because of decreasing nephrons, and if they have had diabetes, the risk of a heart attack may also increase. To lower sugar intake, you definitely need to cut back on sugary drinks, flavored drinks, sodas, juices, etc. Snacks and cereals should be eaten without sugar and avoided as much as possible. Certain foods such as bread, various types of sauces, chocolate milk, sports drinks, flavored coffee, cereal bars, canned fruits, smoothies, etc. are rich in sugar, so you need to look carefully at the label for the content.
  4. Reduce salt intake: Too much sodium in a diet results in fluid retention by the body. Fluid retention raises blood pressure and strains different parts of the body, including blood vessels and kidneys. If your body holds too much water for a long time, it starts to become fluffy and obese. It is for this reason the doctors recommend a salt-lowered diet at every age. Having a diet rich in salt can even increase the risk of heart attack if you have several other risk factors. Table salt should be substituted by rock salt and canned foods by healthy fresh foods. Every canned product has sodium to increase the shelf-life of the product, so they should be limited.
  5. Do not let them consume medications: Overuse of certain painkillers or OTC medicines have been linked to kidney damage. It is essential to seek a pediatrician’s help before using any medicine for your kid. Always be particular about the number of medicines and avoid prolonged use. If your kid already has an ongoing problem, try your hands in Ayurveda. Ayurvedic remedies never harm the body in any way, and they are safe to be consumed by your child.
  6. Go for regular checkups: Early detection helps to avoid the progression of chronic conditions. So, make sure you get regular checkups for your kid’s health. The healthcare team shall check for any abnormality in the body function. If there are unusual symptoms your child is facing, such as sleep issues, troubled concentration, poor appetite, feeling tired, swollen feet and hands, shortness of breath, tiredness, vomiting, and nausea, etc., ask, he is at risk. Changes in urination like too little or too much urine, odor, and frothiness, should not be ignored. The doctor will review the signs and medical history for proper evaluation of the disease.

Ayurvedic treatment for kidney disease in children

If ever your child kidney function goes abnormal, you should not prefer dialysis or transplant as treatment alternatives. Ayurveda works better for children’s health as it helps to improve kidney function for a long time. It is a permanent treatment actually that leads to no complications later in life. The best thing about Ayurvedic kidney disease treatment in children is that no surgery is involved in the entire process, and the treatment is seamless.

To keep the kidney function optimal, Ayurveda focuses on a healthy diet plan based on the body’s temperament level.

Try your hands-on in Ayurveda and give your kid a treatment that is free of any pain.
