Chronic kidney failure is a stressful condition that requires immediate treatment by the patient. The allopathic approaches to treat chronic kidney failure have never been worthy since their inception. Dialysis and transplant are not permanent ways that can treat kidney failure of its roots, rather a way to increase longevity.
Until and unless you choose Ayurveda, you can never assure true well-being. Ayurveda has been the mother of all healing. Ayurveda argues that kidney disease is not only reversible but also a permanent solution to it is available. The progression of the disease can be slowed, and you don’t have to rely on dialysis and transplant for the rest life.
The herbal medicines are derived from wisdom and knowledge of Ayurveda acharyas, who have worked on it since the beginning. Ayurveda believes a disease to be an occurrence of imbalance in life energies, doshas, tissues or dhatus, and so on. Every part of the human body has its own significance, and so named accordingly based on its position and role in keeping the body functional.
In opposition to allopathy, Ayurveda does not believe in treating the symptoms, but on rejuvenating the whole bodily system. A human body is the perfect balance of energy, tissue, rakta, and medadhatus. So disease arising out of these elements can affect the kidneys as well. Any imbalance in these factors can probably raise the risk of kidney disease. This means; while there is a swelling in your leg, the roots of the problems may be the kidneys.
So, to cure kidney disease, these factors, especially rakta and medadhatus, should be balanced first in order to cure kidney disease.
Further, Ayurveda has a conception that the blockage in the minute body channels called srotas is involved in the case of impaired kidney function. Mutravaha srotas (channels of the kidneys) are responsible for the liquid flow in and out of the kidneys. If there is any blockage in the incoming channel, the kidneys may deny fluid, and so do the shrinkage occurs.
On the contrary, if the outgoing channels are impaired, the kidneys start to expand in size.
In Ayurveda, there are herbs effectively used to detoxify these channels and reduce swelling and shrinkage in the kidneys. Further, these herbs promote the kidney’s natural ability to filtration. Ayurvedic treatment aims to revive the faulty cells and the tissues in the body while eliminating the need for reliance on dialysis.
But, the treatment can only be initiated when you get to know about chronic kidney disease in the early stages. Most cases of kidney disease turn fatal because a person may have no idea that his kidneys are damaged until they reach end-stage renal disease. There is no ambiguity in knowing that ayurvedic medicines can also heal the patients even at the last stage or being on dialysis.

Diet for chronic kidney disease
Diet can play a crucial role in preventing and managing chronic kidney disease; however, as the patient progresses towards ESRD, his diet and lifestyle should be changed. Here are some suggested dietary habits a patient should make during different stages of chronic kidney disease.
Stage 1 Diet
Patients at stage 1 of CKD need to make minimal changes in their life to receive maximum benefits. They should reduce the inclusion of sugar and high sodium in their diet and aim to cholesterol level and consume the renal diet until they get back to their normal health. If possible, they should go for a regular workout routine and control blood pressure and blood sugar levels. At this stage, it is still possible for the patients to recover and slow down the growth of the kidney disease.
Patients in stage 2 of CKD need to follow the diet and exercise, as mentioned in stage 1. The damage can be controlled at this stage with the help of ayurvedic medicines and a healthy diet plan. A diet makes the healthy portion of the recovery process of the kidney disease. Maintain healthy body weight and consult your doctor about the exercises good for you.
At this stage, symptoms start to show up. A patient is required to take low sodium, phosphorus, and potassium diet because the kidneys are not able to remove them from the blood. Aim to eat a low protein diet as it will further deteriorate the kidney function. Consume green vegetables and grains. If you are a diabetic patient, you should be more serious about the diet, and avoid OTC dietary supplements, and carbohydrates. Try to make your blood pressure and blood sugar levels stable.
Stage 4 is the stage before the actual kidney failure. This is a serious stage, and the kidney function can not only be reversed with the help of a diet only; you will also need ayurvedic medicines for a recovery. At this stage, the patients should reduce their protein intake after consultation from the doctor. Fruits and vegetables rich in potassium and phosphorus should be reduced while fiber-rich food can be eaten, but only after the consultation.
You should consult a dietician and carefully monitor the progression of the kidney disease. The dietician would help balance the diet so that the vitamins or minerals do not accumulate in the blood. Further, avoid bicarbonate drinks and limit water consumption. Alcohol must be strictly avoided in every stage.
In this stage, the kidney function is completely lost. A patient on dialysis has a diet that is completely different from what is suggested in the four stages above. Comprehensive care, including about the diet, and the treatment is recommended at this level.
